Hi! I’m Luis, a Research Assistant in Open Innovation at Embraer, working on the Embraer Startup Program in partnership with the Institute for Technological Research (IPT) and Euvaldo Lodi Institute (IEL). I am also a specialist in Business Analysis and Intelligence. My work sits at the intersection of corporate strategy, data engineering, and innovation management, focusing on how large organizations can leverage scalable data infrastructures to execute open innovation strategies and optimize internal processes.
My work focuses on the practical implementation of Open Innovation, Business Intelligence (BI), and Digital Transformation workflows. I have extensive experience executing data-driven governance for innovation pipelines and managing the interaction between corporations and the startup ecosystem. I am particularly concerned with process efficiency, data infrastructure, and decision-making in business environments. Finally, I take the institutions of corporate research and innovation as my object of study, asking how innovation offices and R&D departments are evolving through the adoption of quantification, automation, and agile methodologies.
New work in 2026: My current work is focused on the operational execution of Open Innovation ecosystems and advanced data analytics. I specialize in applying data engineering and BI solutions to innovation governance, ensuring transparency and efficiency. I am particularly active in: 1) executing process optimization workflows for innovation scouting, and 2) building automated BI solutions for performance monitoring. Much of this work involves building organizational capacity for data-driven decision-making, deploying tools and dashboards that help stakeholders interrogate KPIs and manage the health of innovation portfolios:
- At the Embraer Startup Program, I execute active scouting, networking, and market research to connect technological solutions to the company’s strategic challenges. I evaluate the technical and strategic adherence of proposed solutions and manage Proof of Concept (PoC) pipelines.
- An ongoing project on data-centric Commercial Intelligence, where I work with sales and operations teams to understand their data needs, then help co-design data warehouses (using SQL, Apache Airflow, and DBT) and automated reporting systems that respond to their specific requirements.
- Implementation of process mapping and governance strategies, utilizing tools like Docker and Cloud Computing environments to ensure the scalability and reliability of data solutions.
- Application of Machine Learning techniques to analyze innovation trends and support the identification of high-potential startups and technologies.
My work and research
I am a Business Administrator and Data Analyst trained in Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, and Corporate Innovation. I have a broad background in management, but I have developed strong expertise in computer science and data science—specifically Python, SQL, R, Apache Airflow, DBT, Docker, Cloud Computing, and Machine Learning—to build scalable and robust solutions. I consider myself a methodological pluralist, drawing from Administration, Economics, and Information Science. I use a broad range of qualitative, quantitative, and computational methods to holistically investigate the role of data infrastructure in business strategy.
Most of my previous work has focused on Digital Transformation at Brazilian Aluminium Company at, where I structured innovation governance using agile methodologies (Kanban, Scrum, SAFe) and created dashboards to monitor over 50 performance indicators. I’ve also led commercial intelligence and data warehousing initiatives at Viiv Real Estate Developments, where I engineered ETL/ELT pipelines to integrate sales data. Additionally, I have conducted academic research using R (Tidyverse) for geospatial analysis, specifically mapping the territorial distribution of sugarcane and ethanol plants to identify patterns of growth and land use changes in Brazil. I study topics including startup scouting, partner governance, and the intersection of data engineering with business processes.
My background and history
I received my B.A. in Business Administration from UNESP (São Paulo State University) and completed my postgraduate degree in Business Analysis and Intelligence from the Data Science Academy in 2026. Before my current role at Embraer, I was a Business Intelligence Trainee at Viiv Empreendimentos, where I developed automated Power BI dashboards and managed SQL databases. Prior to that, I worked as a Research Assistant in Digital Transformation at CBA and as a Data Analytics Intern at Algar Telecomunications, analyzing churn and NPS to identify causes of cancellation and improve customer experience.
My intellectual communities
I’m a disciplinary bridge, integrating fields like Data Engineering, Computer Science, and Business Administration with corporate strategy. In terms of academic and professional specialties, I spend a lot of my time in the fields of Open Innovation, Business Intelligence, and Data Engineering. Methodologically, while trained as an administrator, I rely heavily on technical and computational methods. I often use statistical analysis, data engineering tools (Airflow, DBT), and machine learning models to support strategic business decisions. I frequently participate in hackathons and innovation events, and I also consult with various groups and organizations on how to structure modern data stacks and automate their analytical processes.
